Support for Inclusion of University Journals in Citation Indexesdownload
1. Objective
To promote the qualitative improvement of academic journals published by the university's institutions and raise the university's status in research by providing support for the inclusion of academic journals published (or to be published) by the university's institutions in the SCI(E), SSCI, A&HCI, and KRF indexes.

2. Eligibility
2.1. Eligibility (Publisher)
University colleges (including departments and divisions), university research centers (university-wide, college-affiliated, and intercollegiate), and research centers undertaking large-scale national policy projects
2.2. Requirements
A professional academic journal published (or to be published) regularly at least twice a year (monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly or semi-annually) to exchange academic information (ordinary publications, such as newsletters, do not qualify)
2.3. Qualifications for the inclusion in international indexes shall be journals registered in the KRF Index (either as regular or candidate journals)

3. Evaluation
3.1. Separately evaluate the system and contents of an academic journal
3.2. Quantitative evaluation on the system of an academic journal (80%) and qualitative evaluation on the contents of an academic journal (20%) → selected if the score is higher than a certain level
3.3. Evaluation is differentiated depending on an index to be included

2) Examples of evaluation criteria
A) System evaluation (Quantitative evaluation) - Review process, editing directors (research performance, tenure, etc.), article publishing rate, journal notation, author classification and notation, no. of publications, timeliness of publication, representation of authors (Korean, international), etc.
B) Content evaluation (qualitative evaluation) - Review criteria, process details, stringency of editing director selection criteria and process, expertise and academic activities of editing directors, national and international representation of editing directors, and details and concreteness of contribution rules

4. Support Details
4.1. Korea Index (KRF Index) - KRW 10 million/year, up to three years
4.2. International Index (SCI(E), SSCI, A&HCI) - KRW 30 million/year, up to three years
4.3. Evaluate annually even after selection → Decide whether to continue offering the grant (Confirm whether plans submitted at the time of application are implemented)
4.4. Payments made by the grant are limited to expenses directly incurred in the publication of the journal (e.g.,- journal publication cost, contribution fee, manuscript processing charge, editing director labor cost (up to KRW 300,000/month), system build-up cost for cyber publication, etc.)
4.5. All payments except those for the contribution fee, manuscript processing charge, and editing director labor cost must be made by the university corporate credit card.

5. Others
5.1. Academic journals awarded this grant must make good faith efforts to become included in an index within three years from the offering of the grant, and the outcome must be reported. If these requirements are not met, the publishing institution (including the head of the institution and principal researchers) of the journal will not be eligible to receive research grants from the university for the next three years.
5.2. In case application forms and submitted documents are found to be falsified, the publishing institution (including the head of the institution and principal researchers) of the journal will not be eligible to receive research grants from the university for the next three years.
Support for Hosting Academic Eventsdownload
  • 1. Purpose

    • To promote research and academic exchanges on campus by supporting the hosting of on-campus academic events (domestic, international).
  • 2. Eligibility and Summary

    • A. Eligibility
      • 1) Academic events consisting of academic presentations and debates that also includes research presentations from at least two~three separate external institutions. (Events where only university faculty members attend are ineligible.)
      • 2) Applying institution must provide confirmation of its position as the moderator of the academic event through applicable invitation letters, pamphlets, programs, etc. (Sole/Joint Support)
      • 3) Applying institution must provide confirmation of establishing an academic event at the university through proof of an academic event program (invitation letter, pamphlet, banner, etc.)
    • B. Summary
      • 1) Frequency: Institutions may apply once per year.
      • 2) Event Classification
        • A) International Academic Event: Participating presenters and debaters must include researchers from 3 separate international research institutions, excluding Korean institutions.
        • B) Domestic Academic Event: Must satisfy common requirements but only must include domestic institutions
      • 3) Support Amount
        • A) At least two separate external institutions
          • - International Event: 2 million won, Domestic Event: 1 million won
        • B) At least three separate external institutions & exceed 100 attendees
          • - International Event: 4 million won, Domestic Event: 2 million won
  • 3. Restrictions

    • A. This project will be conducted within the determined expense limits for the corresponding school year.
    • B. Academic events that have otherwise received a budget by the university are ineligible.
    • C. If the academic event cannot meet the requirements of an international academic event, it will be automatically considered a domestic academic event
    • D. Academic events will be considered ineligible if not recognized as directly related to the academics involved.
    • E. The institution must have completed a Yonsei University Research Expenses Report to be eligible
  • 4. Application Process and Required Documents

    • A. Application Process
      • 1) Grant recipients will be selected upon review of the applications received.
      • 2) Application and documents must be submitted to the Office of Research Affairs at least 3 weeks prior to the academic event (Applications submitted past the deadline will not be selected.)
    • B. Required documents
      • 1) Academic event plan (Application)
      • 2) Academic event program (invitation letter, pamphlet, etc.)
        • (As a rule, submission of the event program is required with the application, but under special circumstances may be submitted within fifteen days of the completion of the academic event.)
  • 5. Final Report

    • : Within 15 days of completion of the academic event, the following documents must be submitted to complete the Final Report.
    • A. Final Report (Prescribed Form) and Proceedings(Hostinstitutionand/orsupervisinginstitution’s clearly written statement)
    • B. Photo containing at least 80% of the attendees

Support for Foreign Scholars Invitationdownload
  • 1. Purpose

    • The purpose of this project is to support global academic activities by inviting internationally renowned foreign scholars in order to strengthen ties with foreign scholars, improve the research level of professors to international standards, and promote international academic events.
  • 2. Eligibility and Summary

    • A. Eligibility
      • 1) Academic event which invites prominent foreign scholars to hold academic lectures for departments (Submission of confirmation from Dean of Institution required)
      • 2) Foreign Scholar Requirements: Scholar held in high esteem internationally who has received awards from academic associations, received an internationally renowned commemoration, or is an editor or editorial board member.
      • 3) Foreign scholar must be, at a minimum, a full professor.
    • B. Summary
      • 1) Award Amount: Up to 3 million won per year, annually, per department.
        • - Lecture Fee: Maximum of 1.5 million won per event
        • - Round-trip Airfare: Flight expenses below business class.
        • - Accommodations: Up to 7 days of accommodation expenses.
        • - Event Fee: Event-related printing, venue, reception, membership, and other fees
      • ※ Required Documents for Expense Reimbursement
        • - Personal information page of passport and departure and arrival stamps. (1 photocopy each)
        • - Original copies of receipts (round-trip airfare ticket, accommodations) – Payments made with non-corporate credit cards will not be recognized
        • - Lecture fee payment document (receipt, remittance receipts, or documents which provide proof of payment)
  • 3. Restrictions

    • A. The project will be conducted within the determined expense limits for the corresponding school year.
    • B. The project is ineligible when the foreign scholar is lecturing at an academic event sponsored by the Office of Research Affairs. (Duplicate applications are not permitted.)
    • C. As a rule, any external research assignment must be completed before starting the applicable assignment, and would be deemed ineligible for the grant due to duplicate application.
    • D. Duplicate applications within the graduate school internal infrastructure is not permissible.
    • E. The institution must have completed the Yonsei University Research Expense Final Report to be eligible.
  • 4. Application Process and Required Documents

    • A. Application Process
      • Application and documents must be submitted at least a month before the invitational lecture. (Submissions after the deadline will not be considered.)
    • B. Required Documents
      • 1. Application
      • 2. Academic lecture program (invitational letter, pamphlet) or poster
        • (As a rule, these items are required, but under special circumstances may be submitted up to 15 days after the conclusion of the academic event.)
      • 3. Documents verifying the foreign scholar’s accomplishments or proof of the foreign scholar’s role as editor or editorial board member for a renowned journal.
  • 5. Final Report

    • : Within 15 days of the completion of the academic lecture, the following documents must be submitted to complete the final report.
    • A. Final Report (standard form) within 15 days of the completion of the academic lecture
    • B. List of lecture content and notable attendees
    • C. Photo containing at least 80% of the attendees

 Academic Events held after March 1, 2017
