Support for Participation in International Academic Conferencesdownload
  • 1. Purpose

    • To promote academic development by encouraging international academic exchanges and developing the faculty''s research ability.
  • 2. Eligibility and Qualifications

    • 2.1. Eligibility
      • - Full-time university faculty members (Seoul campuses)
        • (The colleges of medicine, dentistry, and nursing are funded by the Division of Medical Science Research Affairs,)
      • - Faculty members of the colleges of science and engineering must be a New faculty member appointed within three years from the date of application
    • 2.2. Qualifications: Faculty member participating in an international academic conference to present a research article(excluding purposes of education)
    • ※ If two or more members of the university''s faculty make presentations for the same project, the grant will be awarded to only one.
  • 3. Restrictions

    • 3.1. The applicant must have already submitted a final report for a completed university grant-funded project
    • 3.2. The applicant must not have been awarded another research grant for participation in the academic conference
  • 4. Details

    • Only one opportunity per year in either region (first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted)
    • 4.1. Amount: up to KRW 0.7 million(Asia region)
    • 4.2. Amount: up to KRW 1.5 million(Beyond Asia region)
    • 4.3. Scope: airfare, registration fee and traveler's insurance
    • 4.4. The grant will be provided after the final report is submitted (Actual expenses will be reimbursed.)
  • 5. Application

    • Faculty members applying for the grant need to submit the following documents one month before their departure in advance.
    • 5.1. Application form (prescribed form)
    • 5.2. Academic conference program or an invitation letter (photo copy) (Needed to prove participation and presentation)
    • 5.3 Applicants who receive approval from the applicant should apply for a business trip before leaving the country.
  • 6. Final Report

    • A faculty member who submitted an application form and obtained approval from the Office of Research Affairs must submit the following documents within 15 days from his/her return to Korea.
    • 6.1. Final Report (standard form)
    • 6.2. Academic conference attendance report (standard form)
    • 6.3. Presented article (full text)
    • 6.4. A photocopy of passport photo and personal information pages and departure & arrival stamps
    • 6.5. Original receipts (round-trip air tickets(boarding passes), registration fee receipt) - Payments made by non-corporate credit cards are not recognized

Support for Publication of Professional Academic Books download
1. Purpose
To promote the production of outstanding professional academic books, this project supports the actual expenses for the publication of books through Yonsei University Press by teachers affiliated with Yonsei University

2. Subject
2.1. Eligibility
Professional academic books published through Yonsei University Press by teachers affiliated with Yonsei University

※ Excludes books with textbook traits

3. Provided amount
Actual expenses consumed in publication through Yonsei University Press: the Office of Research Affairs 50%, Yonsei University Press 50% (up to 10 million KRW provided for book)
For professional academic books that are published by translating domestic publications into a foreign language, 50% of the provided amount (from the Office of Research Affairs) can be used as personnel expenses.

4. Application procedure and method
A. Apply via Research Management System (http://rms.yonsei.ac.kr)
B. Go to Research Management System: Log in -> Apply project -> Apply school project -> Support project for publication of professional academic books -> Click Apply -> Register project information, upload book publication request form -> Click Register Researcher -> Register researcher and save -> Click Next -> Enter budget (expected issue cost) -> Click Request Confirmation
C. Submitted application form and book publication request form are sent to Yonsei University Press (processed by manager of the Office of Research Affairs)
D. Documents are evaluated at Yonsei University Press (processed by manager of Yonsei University Press)
E. Yonsei University Press contacts researcher (processed by manager of Yonsei University Press)
F. Yonsei University Press submits receipt including publication costs to the Office of Research Affairs (processed by manager of Yonsei University Press)
G. Amount provided by research center (processed by manager of the Office of Research Affairs)
H. If 50% of the amount provided by the Office of Research Affairs is used as the personnel expenses for translation, the evidentiary document will be attached after the translation is completed, and the amount will be provided afterward.

5. Limitations
Faculty members applying for the grant need to submit the following documents one month before their departure.

6. Final Report
This project only supports professional academic books published by teachers affiliated with Yonsei University. Subjects that have received support by violating this regulation must return the provided amount and are prohibited from future applications.

7. Other
This project will be executed from June 1, 2009.
This project will be executed within the total project budget limit appropriated in the relevant school year.
External Project Seed Money Grantdownload
1. Purpose
To help full-time university faculty members win extramural research projects and increase their incentive by providing financial support for expenses incurred in the submission of project proposals invited by external research institutions.

2. Eligibility
2.1. The applicant must be a full-time university faculty member and the principal researcher of a proposal submitted to external research institutions (central government-affiliated only).
2.2. The applicant and the principal researcher of the submitted proposal should be the same.
2.3. If the research project selection process entails evaluation of a preliminary proposal (or technological proposal, idea contest, etc.) and evaluation of a main proposal, this grant is allowed for the main proposal evaluation only.

3. Eligible Scope and Requirements
3.1. Various expenses (expenses for conferences, printing, binding, consumables, etc.) directly incurred in the submission of a proposal for an external research project will be reimbursed up to the maximum amount allowed.
3.2. Direct expenses to the proposal will be determined by the Office of Research Affairs.
3.3. Recognized receipts are those dated from two months before the date of invitation to the closing date.
3.4. If the original receipts are not available, grant funding is not provided unless their direct relevance is recognized.
3.5. The grant is available only for proposals for a government-supported research project. Those supported by the university are not eligible (BK21, etc.).
3.6. In the case of science, engineering and medicine fields, the grant is allowed only if a proposal is submitted for a multi-year project of at least two years.

5. Application Process and Required Documents
5.1. Application Process
An application form and required documents must be submitted within 15 days from the date of proposal submission. An application submitted past the deadline will not be eligible.

6. Remarks
6.1. The grant is provided until the budget for the academic year is exhausted.
6.2. A full-time faculty member may receive up to two grants in an academic year.
Support for Article Publication Costdownload
1. Purpose
To promote research by the university''''s full-time faculty members by providing financial support when they publish academic articles in renowned Korean or international academic journals.

2. Eligibility
2.1. An applicant must be the primary author (first author or corresponding author) of an appropriate article and a full-time university faculty member as of the date of application.
2.2. However, an applicant will not be eligible if he/she is awarded a grant for the same project by his/her college, researcher center, or external academic society.

3. Eligible Academic Journals
3.1.Social Science& Humanities: Korea Research Foundation (KRF)-registered journals (including candidate journals), and journals registered on SCI, SCIE, SSCI, and A&HCI
3.2 Science & Engineering : SCI, SCIE, SSCI, and A&HCI

4. Guideline Details
4.1 The grant will be awarded only if a full-time university faculty member is the primary author (first author or corresponding author) of an appropriate article.
4.2.If authors of an appropriate article are listed in alphabetical order (either in English or Korean) and it is difficult to determine the primary author, a document verifying that the applicant is a corresponding author of the article must be submitted or the first author of the article must be a full-time faculty member of the university.
4.3. If both the first author and corresponding author of an appropriate article are full-time faculty members of the university, only the corresponding author will be awarded the grant.
4.4. In principle, the grant will be awarded for an article published in an academic journal in the academic year of the date of publication. In the case of an academic journal published in the previous year, the grant will be awarded retroactively if the date of publication is within six months from the date of application.
4.5. For each publication, actual expenses up to KRW one million will be covered. If expenses exceed KRW one million, the office of research affairs examine and decides whether to support. (the limit is KRW 3 millions)
4.6. The reported publication cost is a sum of the page charge and reprint charge. (Manuscript processing charge and proofreading charge are not covered.) In principle, the reprint charge is not covered
4.7. If the article is confirmed to have been produced with external financial support through acknowledgement, the grant will be awarded only when the research of the relevant external project has been completed. (In the case of a multi-year project, only when the final year has been completed.)

5. Application Process and Required Documents

After making payments for the publication processing charge, an application form and proper receipts should be submitted to the Office of Research Affairs.

(3) If published in a Korean academic journal,
If paid in cash: Account transfer receipt and a receipt stamped with an official seal of the relevant academic society (original)
If paid by credit card: credit card receipt (original copy) and a receipt stamped with an official seal of the relevant academic society (In principle, the original should be submitted, but a photocopy is also acceptable.)
(4) If published in an international academic journal,
If paid in cash: F/X transaction statement and remittance receipt (MT103). (original copy)
If paid by credit card: credit card receipt (original copy) or a detailed document verifying the won-denominated amount

Proofreading Support Projectdownload
  • 1. Purpose

    To maximize the acceptance rate of academic articles by full-time university faculty members by renowned international academic journals by contracting a professional editor to improve the quality of writing of articles and make them more complete and credible.

  • 2. Eligibility and Support

    • 2.1. Eligibility
      • Applicants are eligible if they are the main authors (the first author or corresponding author) of a research paper, and full-time faculty members of the university at the time of application. However, applicants are not eligible if they are receiving the equivalent support from the college, research institutes, external academic associations where the author is engaged.
    • 2.2. Financial support: any proofreading rate not exceeding 1,000,000 KRW per paper
      • i) Humanities and Social Sciences: papers to be submitted to SSCI, A&HCI and other renowned academic journals registered with the Korea Research Foundation (KRF).
      • ii) Science and Engineering: papers to be submitted to SCI and SCIE journals (excluding journals registered with the KRF from January 2010 on).
  • 3. Restrictions

    • 3.1) The grant is provided until the budget for the academic year is exhausted.
    • 3.2) Candidates who did not submit an Yonsei Academic Research Expenses Report on, may not be eligible for financial support.
    • 3.3) The journal papers which are related to other projects, are, in principle, separately handled regarding the eligibility for financial support...
    • 3.4) Without proof of submission confirmation, applications for Projects in the Yonsei University are restricted.
  • 4. Application Process and Required Documents

    • 4.1. Application before submission: Using agencies designated by the Office of Research Affairs
      • i) Submit to one of the following agencies: the articles, the journal information to be published, the applicant's information, and the request information.
      • ii) Approximately 7-10 days after receipt of a confirmation e-mail from the contracted agency, the proofread document is returned via e-mail (time may vary according to word count)
      • iii) Within one month after receiving the proofread document, submit a PROOFREADING evaluation form and a copy of confirmation of submission to the journal via e-mail to the Office of Research Affairs (yonsei-research@yonsei.ac.kr)
      • (The expenses will be paid by Office of Research Affairs covers expenses at the end of the month)
      • iv) Contracted Agencies : Please input this code when you apply => YSRESEARCH
    • 4.2. Application after submission: Using agencies other than the designated agencies above (reimbursement of expenses within the designated limit),(Just for standard service)
      • i) An applicant individually requests the proofreading service to their selected agency (agency as a legal entity)
      • ii) The professor makes a personal payment for the proofreading fee (not payable by other research grant credit cards
      • iii) Submit the following documents to the Office of research Affairs for reimbursement of fee expenses.
        • - Application for PROOFREADING support form, proofread documents, agent invoices, payment receipts, PROOFREADING evaluation form, a copy of confirmation of submission to the journal
        • - Tax invoices cannot be processed for application after submission with non-designated agencies.
