조직·문화신학 Systematic-Cultural Theology

조직·문화신학은 예수 그리스도의 성육신에 드러난 하나님의 자기 계시의 진리를 대면한 기독교인의 ‘이해를 추구하는 신앙’(faith seeking understanding, fides quaerens intellectum)을 가리킨다. 그것은 진리의 본질을 규명하는 ‘거룩한 가르침’(sacra doctrina)으로서의 조직신학과, 진리의 씨알이 떨어져 성장하는 영의 토양을 규명하는 예비분석 혹은 ‘프롤레고메나’(prolegomena)로서의 문화신학으로 구성된다.

자전거는 두 바퀴를 가져야 제대로 달리며, 새는 좌우의 날개로 비상하며, 안경은 두 개의 렌즈를 가져야 제대로 사물을 본다. 예수께서는 사마리아 여인에게 “영(spirit)과 진리(truth)”로 하나님을 예배하라고 하셨다(요한 4:24). 진리가 변하지 않는 하나님의 빛이라면, 영은 그 빛이 토양에 만들어내는 다채로운 그림자이다.

이처럼 조직·문화신학은 기독교 계시의 본체적 씨알을 규명하는 ‘진리의 해석학’(hermeneutics of truth)으로서의 조직신학을 한 축으로 하며, 진리의 씨알이 떨어져 성장하는 문화적 형식을 규명하는 ‘영의 문화학’(cultural theories of spirit)으로서의 문화신학을 또 다른 축으로 한다. 진리의 해석학과 영의 문화학이라는 두 이야기의 합류와 지평융합을 추구하는 것이 바로 조직·문화신학이다.

구체적으로 조직신학의 축은 계시론, 신론, 기독론, 성령론, 삼위일체론, 교회론, 종말론, 신학적 방법론 등에 대한 사도적 전통과 보편적 교회의 ‘거룩한 가르침’을 에큐메니칼 정신에 기초하여 조직적이고 체계적으로 해석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 문화신학의 축은 이러한 진리의 씨알이 한국문화에 단단히 생명력의 뿌리를 내릴 수 있도록 한국인의 종교관, 예술관, 인생관에 대한 ‘예비적 분석’을 목표로 한다. 요컨대 조직·문화신학은 진리의 씨알과 문화의 토양, 거룩한 가르침과 프롤레고메나, 기독교인으로서의 종교적 정체성과 한국인으로서의 문화적 정체성을 동시에 사유함으로, 진리와 영의 찬미학(doxology)이라는 지성적 신앙의 고결한 사명을 감당하고자 한다.

Systematic-cultural theology is ‘faith seeking understanding’(fides quaerens intellectum) of a Christian in face of the spiritual truth of the self-revealing God embodied in the incarnation of Jesus Christ. It consists of systematic theology that investigates ‘sacra doctrina’ of the seeds of truth, and cultural theology that offers a ‘prolegomena’ about the analyses of spiritual soil for the seeds.

A bicycle has two wheels, a bird has two wings, and a glasses has two lenses. Likewise, Jesus teaches a Samaritan woman to worship God “in spirit and in truth” simultaneously (John 4:24). Truth is like the unchanging light of God, whereas spirit is like the ever changing shadow of God’s light on earth.

Systematic-cultural theology has two poles. One pole is ‘hermeneutics of truth’ to investigate the substance or seeds of Christian revelation, and the other pole is ‘cultural theories of spirit’ to investigate cultural soil or forms for the seeds. Systematic-cultural theology aims at the confluence or fusion of horizons between hermeneutics of truth and cultural theories of spirit.

In particular, systematic theology offers a comprehensive systematic interpretation of ‘sacra doctrina’ handed down to us from the apostolic tradition and universal church on the foundation of ecumenical perspectives, including theories of revelation, God, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Trinity, church, eschatology, theological methodology. Cultural theology offers a preliminary analysis or ‘prolegomena’ of the Korean culture to make sure the seeds of truth to be firmly embodied in our contemporary society, including theories of Korean religions, arts, and world views. In sum, systematic-cultural theology wants to bear the sacred task of theology as a ‘doxology of truth and spirit’ in process of synthesizing two poles, the seeds of truth and the soil of spirit, sacra doctrina and prolegomena, religious identity and cultural identity, Christianity and Korea simultaneously.
